Whether Hearing And Obeying Is A ‘Jāmī’ Concept | Shaykh Ṣāliḥ al-Fawzān
The Questioner: Esteemed Shaykh, this questioner asks what is your opinion concerning the one who says that hearing and obeying the Muslim leader is a Jāmī concept? And who are the Jāmīs?
Shaykh Ṣāliḥ al-Fawzān: “Who was it that said: ‘O you who believe! Obey Allāh and obey the Messenger, and those in authority from among you.’ [Sūrah al-Nisāʾ 4:59] Who was the one who [originally] said this al-Jāmī? Allāh the Glorified and Exalted said it.
Who was it that [originally] said: ‘I advise you to fear Allāh and to hear and obey even an Ethiopian slave were to assume authority over you.’ Was this [doubt] said by al-Jāmī or was this said by this sinful hypocrite? And we ask Allāh for protection. What is important is that you do not pay any attention to these types of affairs.”
The Questioner: However, these people constantly say this is the methodology of al-Jāmī. Is there a group that is called al-Jāmiyyah?
Shaykh Ṣāliḥ al-Fawzān: “Those people are the ones who created this name just as they did with the term Wahhābism. Is there any Wahhābism besides what the pious predecessors and the Imāms of this Muslim nation were upon?! The like of these type of nicknames are used to drive people away from the truth; these are nicknames used to drive people from the truth so do not pay any attention to them.”
