VIDEO: Advice for Masjid Al-Wahyain MN | Shaykh Muḥammad Ṣaghīr ʿAkkūr

 

A word of advice from Sh Muḥammad Ṣaghīr ʿAkkūr to the administration of Masjid al-Wahyain:

The Questioner: We, the brother ʿAbdur-Raḥmān and myself, represent a new Salafī masjid in the United States. This masjid in our area is called Masjid al-Waḥyain. So could you offer the administration of this masjid a brief word of advice specifically regarding the matter of remaining firm upon the methodology of the Salaf and avoiding the methodologies which oppose it?

Shaykh Muḥammad Ṣaghīr ʿAkkūr: You mean, you would like it now?

The Questioner: If it is possible.

Shaykh Muḥammad Ṣaghīr ʿAkkūr: No problem. In the name of Allāh, the Most Merciful Bestower of Mercy; all praise is due to the Lord of creation and may the prayers of peace and blessings of Allāh be upon our Prophet Muḥammad as well as his family and all of his companions. In response to the request our brother Qāsim, may Allāh preserve him, for a word of advice to those responsible for Masjid al-Waḥyain in the area in which they reside regarding adherence to the correct methodology of the Salaf. So I say and with Allāh is the success, that the believer in any time or place is responsible to implement tawḥīd (Islāmic monotheism) which is the basis for every act of worship. In fact it is the foundation of all of the revealed religions for which Allāh revealed scripture and sent messengers and legislated jihād and the reason for which the Paradise and Hellfire were created. So the implementation of tawḥīd (Islāmic monotheism) is the primary responsibility such that if an individual establishes it, Allāh will bless his efforts even if they are very small in number. So first and foremost, I advise myself and whoever this reaches from those who are present as well as those who aren’t here, I advise everyone to establish this fundamental precept which is to direct every form of worship to Allāh the Glorified and Exalted exclusively.

He should be considered one in His divine nature just as He should be considered one as it relates to His names and attributes. Then whatever this pure form of tawḥīd (Islāmic monotheism) requires as it relates to His rights like the establishment of the five daily prayers along with their conditions, pillars and obligations in their respective times and in congregation for those for whom the congregational prayers are an obligation. Then the sacrificing (literally giving zakāh) of one’s wealth and one’s self, one’s station and position as well contributing one’s knowledge; and this precedes everything else.

Then I advise myself and then whoever else might hear this humble word of advice which is specific to the needs of the speaker, to proceed upon the methodology of the Salaf that Allāh has chosen for this nation and upon which the noblest, most truthful and purest of the creation to Allāh and most mindful of Him and the one who feared Him the most Muḥammad –may the prayers of peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him- and his noble companions who lived with him proceeded upon. They conveyed the light of the religion, the light of the revelation from the Book (the Qurʾān) and the Sunnah to those who came after them from the people of this nation. So they conveyed it, as it had been conveyed to them from the source of the message –may the prayers of peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him-.

They took his Sunnah as a source of guidance, without being selective regarding any of it. These were our predecessors, the messenger of Allāh and his companions and their students (tābiʿūn) who followed them upon goodness from the best generations of the Muslims; his generation –may the prayers of peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him- and the generation of the students of the companions (tābiʿūn) and their students (atbāʿ at-tābiʿīn) and the Imāms of guidance and those sources of light in the darkness, the four Imāms as well as the Imāms of the Salaf in every time and place who have conveyed pure knowledge of the religion which is free of innovation and superstitions and partisanship; these people are the Salaf for whom we are obligated to take as an example, follow them and implement their way following carefully in their footsteps because they took this religion from the sources of Islāmic legislation: the Book (the Qurʾān) and the Sunnah upon the understanding of the Salaf.

So whoever proceeds upon this path and follows this methodology; then this individual knows the path of truth, and I ask Allāh the Mighty and Majestic to make this person firm upon this, until he meets Allāh in this state.

As for those who look left and right, and seek after good from other than its sources, then these people have led themselves astray and exhausted themselves with an action which is neither correct or acceptable. And Allāh says regarding them: ‘Have you not seen the one who has made his own desire his God and who Allāh led astray with knowledge; and He sealed his hearing and his heart and placed a covering over his sight…’ [Sūrah al-Jāthiyyah 45:23] and Allāh the Mighty and Majestic says: ‘Say: shall we inform you concerning whom has the most to lose regarding their actions? Those whose efforts in the worldly life are wasted, while they thought their actions would result in good.’ [Sūrah al-Kahf 18:103-104] So whoever deviates away from the path of the truth while claiming that he is seeking after the truth from other then its path, then this is true loss and this is utter destruction and straying away from the truth.

So I advise myself and those whom I love for the sake of Allāh regardless of whether they are near or far; that we must adhere to the methodology of the pious predecessors who have taken their methodology from the Book of Allāh (the Qurʾān) and the Sunnah of His Messenger –may the prayers of peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him- according to the guidance of the Prophet –may the prayers of peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him- who said: ‘It is upon you to adhere to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the rightly-guided Caliphs after me. Cling on to it with your molar teeth and beware of newly invented matters since every newly invented matter is a religious innovation and every religious innovation is misguidance and all misguidance is in the Hellfire.’

And we ask Allāh the Mighty and Majestic to grant us success and correctness in our speech and actions and our final appeal is that all praise is due to Allāh the Lord of creation.”
